McKiernan wins an Australian Shadow Award

Last YearAndrew McKiernan’s collection, ‘Last Year, When We Were Young‘ has just won a Shadow Award. This is the announcement from the Australian Horror Writers Association Facebook Page:

And finally… our Collected Works winner. Again there was some quality collections released last year and I’d recommend (if you haven’t already) getting your hands on all of them.

Our judges chose not to create a shortlist this year because in their eyes there was one clear winner. And that winner is….

Last year when we were young by Andrew McKiernan

“A Masterful collection of supernatural horror and dark fantasy. The horror tales are disturbingly close to home, with vivid characters and a distinctly Australian tone. The atmospheric tales of fantasy take you to terrible other worlds.”

Congratulations Andrew.

The awards celebrate the finest in horror and dark fiction published by an Australian or New Zealander for the calendar year of 2014. Works are judged on the overall effect – the skill, delivery, and lasting resonance – of a story.
